Raku: A process where ceramic vessels are fired to 1000 degrees Celsius in a mere 15 minutes. Long tongs and protective clothing are used. The pieces are lifted whilst glowing red hot and put directly into wood chips, fierce flames ensue and the whilst still hot, they are quenched in water creating a sea of bubbles and steam. The result is an exciting conflict and collaboration between earth, fire, air and water; resulting in spectacular patterns and colours. A combination of science, applications and techniques are used to create Lisa’s pieces.
