Teabowl 4 - Rebecca Appleby
Teabowl 4
15cm x 10cm
Multiple glazed.
From highly sculptural ceramics to experimental painting, Rebecca Appleby’s new work is a personal development of her previous sculpture – the exploration of abandoned industrial & architectural fragments inexorably destroyed by the ravages of time.
Through a series of techniques developed over a 20-year career, Rebecca’s works are strongly defined by a series of marks & surface contusions that mimic both the manufactured process of industry & the seemingly sporadic, yet calculated occurrences found in nature. Her works explore & echo both the ephemeral & established solidity of her surroundings, offering the viewer thought-provoking pieces & an exemplary dialogue of colour, line & movement.
Rebecca is a highly respected artist, whose sculptural & painterly eye, allows her the diversity to go beyond the boundaries of her traditional background in ceramics, giving her the freedom to create vibrant & challenging work.
Rebecca trained at Edinburgh College of Art 1999-2001 (BA Ceramics) is a selected member of the Craft Potters Association of Great Britain and a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors. She currently lives and works in Yorkshire in the north of England
