For any ability aged 16+
Saturday 28th September 2024, 10.30am - 3.30pm
Emily Stubbs is a contemporary British ceramicist based in York.
Emily creates by building and collaging slabs of textured clay together, inspired by her colourful paper collages and sketchbooks. In this workshop, Emily will introduce you to her playful exploration of the relationship between form and surface decoration.
"Through my work I explore the playful relationship between form and surface decoration. The vessel is my primary
interest, created by building and collaging slabs of textured clay together. Drawing inspiration from my 2D paper
collages and sketches I translate this process into clay, building up layer upon layer of slips and glazes. The finished vessels have a similar graphic quality to them, with bold colour, strong line and intuitive mark making."
During this workshop, Emily will guide you through the various techniques she employs in her own work. You'll explore the development of rich surface textures and designs using slips, stencils, and found materials. The workshops will include screen printing and monoprinting onto clay, allowing you to build up layers of texture and pattern to create intricate and richly detailed surfaces, before building up abstract sculptural forms using various techniques such as slab building, coiling and pinching.
All materials and firing inclusive.
